The Bible: Transformation Vs. Information (aka Losing Friends & Alienating People)

“Read your Bible, pray everyday.”

One of the most popular Sunday school melodies of my day. If you started singing and clapping along as you read it, you should be well on your way to the altar by now. 😂 (90s babies, it’s time to start accepting your age!!) But questions of matrimonial bliss (or lack thereof) aside, that simple-sounding Sunday school verse packs a punch. So lets dive into that five-word phrase.

Step 1: ‘Read your Bible’

Lately, some of the most interesting discussions I’ve had about faith and Christianity have been centered around the Bible and it’s validity. And some of the theories I’ve heard are even nuttier than the idea that we have a compassionate God who punished His only Son for our trangressions and then documented it in a book with 66 chapters.

The truth is, anyone can poke holes in any theory. The crux of the matter here is Faith. That’s not debatable. You either have it or you don’t.

Food for thought…….

Back to the phrase at hand. If you read your Bible, that’s awesome! If you read your Bible everyday, more power to you!! But unfortunately, that’s still only step 1. You’ve gained the information. So how do we work on the transformation?

Step 2: ‘Pray Everyday’

Unless we’re working on talking to God and asking for revelations about the information we’ve acquired, all we’ve really done is read a bunch of amazing stories (seriously, some of them are pretty spectacular!) But what’s the point in reading about defeated giants, fantastic victories, foolish decisions, impossible feats, mind-blowing miracles and the inexplicable love of God if we don’t know how it applies to our daily lives? There is none. The Bible isn’t just a bunch of stories, it’s a book of lessons. It’s ‘Life for Dummies’. And the most amazing part is, the instructor is on-call 24/7, 365. 😊

I don’t pretend to be the most consistent prayer warrior, but I’m committing myself to it, starting today. Should we struggle with life when Someone has already laid out a perfect plan for us?? For what?? For whyy??

We are much too blessed to be stressed!

Have a fabulous one y’all! 😊

xx
